THE MIDDLE TENNESSEE FLOOD

Many people have expressed concern about our staff and our offices after having heard of the flooding in Middle Tennessee. There is no question many people were hard hit. Gate did suffer financially as interpreting contracts were canceled due to flooding at local venues, however we are happy to report our offices were left unharmed! The Cool Springs area did receive an extreme amount of rain, the most in the Mid Tenn we hear. One day we received 16" at the office and the next day we received even more we were told topping out over 34" possibly. Obviously that mixed with the fact that Cool Springs received it's name because of the Spring that runs through our town, encouraging even greater water flow, we were in for some obvious trouble. Our area was reported over and over as being a flooded area, but when all was said and done, the hand of God and the small hill we were on allowed for the water to move past our offices rather than remaining in our offices. Our in house staff, volunteers, and our interpreting staff are all secure. UPDATE: One of Gate's distance students did lose everything when the levies overflowed in Memphis.

Gate has recently been volunteering at El Shaddai, a spanish speaking/bi-lingual church in Brentwood. Our thought was that if we would travel 2 days to minister to the hispanic population of another country, we needed to reach out to our own area and bless them as well. We began a few weeks ago to teach their teens Honduran Sign Language, as they prepared to minister in Honduras. Only a few weeks into the program this happened. Obviously the classes have been suspended, but our hearts and prayers are with them.
